We visited the prison again today. We almost were not allowed in due to not having an appointment (we didn’t realize that we needed one). But praise God, they let us in anyhow. The ladies were excited as usual to see us. We enjoyed a sweet time of Bible study, praise and prayer- it was too short today though. Please pray for these women…pray that God will work in their lives and that their time in prison would not be wasted but would be used to help them grow in their understanding of Christ…most of them know Christ as their savior but we aren’t sure about a few of them. There are 7 women total in the prison. Here are a few of their stories (for safety I won’t use their names, just initial):
M. is a deaf woman who has been accused of selling her friend. Her friend ran away from home and the father has brought accusations against M. She has not yet gone to court but waits in prison anyhow. She doesn’t know when or if she will get to go to court and hopes she is only in jail for 3 more months. She is excited that I can sign (a little) and is very patient with my mistakes.
A. is an exuberant, enthusiastic woman. She and her fiancé were arrested for armed robbery- although she says she wasn’t a part of it. She has a child who has been living with relatives for the past year while his parents are in prison. Yesterday she was in court and bail was set but she can’t afford to pay it.
As. Is an elderly woman- a mother of 12. Her husband was having an affair with the house help so she killed the house help. She is condemned to die.
S. is a woman who was arrested for drug trafficking. She is a prostitute but tells us she wants to get out of that profession. She has 3 or 4 kids who are living with relatives while she is in prison. She also had bail set yesterday but can’t pay and has no one to help her.
E. is the mother of a boy who was arrested and put into prison. E. signed for him so he could get out and while he was out he died. Now E. is being forced to do his time. Bail has been set for her but it is way too high for her to reach.
Please pray for these women and the others who are there.
